How to Use Manuka Honey for Healing

Hi friends!

Let me share an awesome little anecdote with you…

But first, a quick disclaimer. I am an affiliate marketer, and if you click the linked product in this post, and decide to buy the product I use, I get a small commission from the sale. I only link products that I use myself, and that I know will help you achieve a healthier, natural lifestyle!

Now, for my story:

A couple of weeks ago, I burned the knuckle of my finger on the oven door. Nothing too serious, but still, an irritating little wound in a place that I found myself bumping on everything… and it hurt.

For two days and nights, I applied Neosporin cream to the burn and covered it with a band-aid… and it did not heal. In fact, each morning, I woke up to a more inflamed, irritated wound that acted like it was trying to get infected!

By the third day of this, I decided I’d had enough!

So, I pulled out my handy little jar of Manuka Honey, covered the wound with a couple drops of it, put a band-aid over it, and went to bed.

And guess what?

By the next morning, the burn had healed significantly! It was no longer irritated, inflamed, or showing signs of infection at all! And it had begun to grow new, healthy skin over the wound…

Just overnight!

Since then, I’ve tossed the tube of Neosporin ointment and have decided to use Manuka honey to treat any minor wound that I get from now on. I knew I had to share my story with you guys because this stuff is, well, the stuff!

Did You Know?

What Is Manuka Honey?

Beautiful white Manuka blossoms in full bloom amidst lush green foliage, captured in Nelson, New Zealand.

Manuka honey is honey that’s made by European honeybees foraging on the Manuka tree, Leptospermum scoparium. The tree is native to New Zealand, and some coastal regions of Australia. Manuka has been used by the native Maori people’s medicine for thousands of years. The Maori people know Manuka as a taonga, or treasure, in their culture due to its wholesome healing properties.

The manuka tree, and the honey made from its flowers, have strong antimicrobial and antioxidant properties that are well-documented in medical literature. Manuka honey is often used in place of or in addition to antibiotics in order to prevent bacteria from growing resistant to antibiotics.

What’s In the Jar?

Manuka honey is very thick, more like a paste than the honey you’re probably used to using. It has a dark, warm, creamy brown color with a deep, rich, herbaceous scent and taste. The official description of the taste is “mineral, slightly bitter,” “earthy, oily, herbaceous,” and “florid, rich, and complex.”

It’s rather different from the clear, yellow-toned honeys you’ll find in hives around the northern hemisphere.

How to Use Manuka Honey to Heal Injuries

The most typical ways to use manuka honey include eating/drinking the honey, and applying it directly to wounds.

One of the best ways to get the full benefits of manuka honey is eat a spoonful of the honey, letting it sit, melt, and dissolve on your tongue. This allows the honey to absorb directly into your system, and also allows the honey to coat your mouth and throat. This is especially popular when a person is fighting a cold, sore throat, upper respiratory infection, or wounds in the mouth.

You can also use the honey to replace sweeteners and syrups in your diet. Just mix it into hot drinks, mix into foods as you’re cooking, or put it on foods that you will eat directly, such as waffles or toast, and enjoy that way!

(One important caveat: Heating manuka honey will cause it to lose potency. It’s important to use it in its raw form, straight from the jar to your body, for best results!)

For shallow or surface wounds, skin abrasions and burns, or any type of topical use, simply put the honey directly onto the skin and cover with a bandage, or put the honey on a bandage before covering the wound. https://amzn.to/4qU7wMM

Is Your Manuka Honey Pure and Authentic?

Manuka honey is carefully tested for quality and purity using the Manuka Honey Science Definition test. To pass, the honey must meet five criteria, four of which are chemical-based, and the fifth uses DNA signatures of the Manuka tree. Producers in New Zealand and Australia work with their respective governments, scrupulously testing each batch of manuka honey to ensure it is pure, monofloral manuka honey (made only from manuka flowers) that has been made, packaged, and sealed within the honey’s country of origin before shipping.

Because manuka honey is so valuable medicinally, demand is high. That also leads to some bad actors who’re willing to market and sell products that are not authentic, pure, high-quality manuka honey.

To ensure that your manuka honey is pure and authentic, look for manuka honey that is a product of New Zealand or Australia, and has a seal of authenticity on the label. Research the company you choose to buy from, to make sure you aren’t buying manuka honey that has been mixed with other honeys or syrups before packaging.

Manuka Honey is A Valuable Addition to Your Natural Remedies Kit

If you haven’t tried manuka honey before, you may be skeptical of how effective it is when you need to treat an illness or wound, or just to give your over all health a boost.

It’s okay to be skeptical. We’re all on a journey of learning and healing and removing toxins in our lives, together.

In our modern world, natural remedies have been scorned for generations, while an intensive medical model has been framed as superior. And, while it’s absolutely true that medical advancements have made it possible to treat and cure disease and injuries that were nearly impossible in older times, the power of naturally occurring medicines are not less, or inferior, today.

Manuka honey is fantastic to use on everyone in your family. It’s a pure, natural, ancient healing agent that helps prevent antibiotic resistance in today’s wily germs.

Try it! I think you’ll love it!

If you have used manuka honey before, please leave a comment telling all of us what you were working to heal, how you used the honey, and what your results were! We’d love to hear from you!
